Van Gogh saw more in the dark than most people see in the light of day. He saw details, nuances, beauty in a single night sky. And he was able to describe what he saw to make it come alive for us, to describe it in words and, even more effectively, with paint. Creativity is about imagination and yet it’s about reality, too. Seeing the world as it truly is, right now, observing carefully so you can respond to what is- without that grounding in reality, flights of imagination are unconvincing. Thus the old saying: write what you know. No one is like you. Be yourself and you will be unique. But first you must get down to the real you. You must scrape off the barnacles that cover you. You must open your senses so you can see clearly as yourself. You must distill your essence down to 100% unadulterated you……Danny Gregory
real art….real meaning….real life…..maybe we miss something here? maybe we wouldn’t need to write our autobiography, complete with slick graphics, dramatic monologues and beautiful chapters by giving in to the raw grit and the tattered beauty of our dog-eared whisperings and our passion for paradox ….may we live in the heart of ourselves, the real artist……
What hope is there for individual reality or authenticity when the forces of violence and orthodoxy, the earthly powers of guns and bombs and manipulated public opinion make it impossible for us to be authentic and fulfilled human beings? The only hope is in the creation of alternative values, alternative realities. The only hope is in daring to re-dream one’s place in the world- a beautiful act of imagination, and a sustained act of self-becoming. Which is to say that in some way or another we breach and confound the accepted frontiers of things. Metamorphosis is the essential condition of a state of affairs. It is the true hidden reality that becomes apparent. The essence of things or people is truer than their visible forms. In a metamorphosis the essential truth overruns the external illusion of truth: as you are , so you become. The basis of metamorphosis is a simple one. It is anguish, or ecstasy…..Ben Okri

Art is the inevitable consequence of growth and is the manifestation of the principles of its origins. The work of art is a result; is the output of a progress in development and stands as a record and marks the degree of development. It is not an end in itself, but the work indicates the course taken and the progress made. It promises more, and from it projection can be made. The individual passes, living his life, and the things he touches receive his kind of impress, and they afterwards bear the trace of his passing. Art need not be intended. It comes inevitably as the tree from the root, the branch from the trunk, the blossom from the twig. None of these forget the present in looking forward or backward. They are occupied wholly with the fulfillment of their own existence. Because it is engaged in the full play of its own existence, because it is full in its own growth, its fruit is inevitable…..Robert Henri
